2/23/2012 - A Shift From Nursing Homes to Managed Care at Home

Faced with soaring health care costs and shrinking Medicare and Medicaid financing, nursing home operators are closing some facilities and embracing an emerging model of care that allows many elderly patients to remain in their homes and still receive the medical and social services available in institutions.

The rapid expansion of this new type of care comes at a time when health care experts argue that for many aged patients, the nursing home model is no longer financially viable or medically justified.

10/19/2011 - Phone Monitoring That Cut Miami-Dade Medicaid Fraud May Expand

A pilot telephone monitoring program aimed at cutting Medicaid fraud in Miami-Dade County has helped cut expenditures for home health visits, and now the Agency for Health Care Administration aims to expand the program to more counties.

According to the agency, 201 Miami-Dade providers were reimbursed $21,628,538 in fiscal 2010-2011 after the program was introduced, while in fiscal 2009-2010, 253 Miami-Dade providers were reimbursed $43,285,931 for home health visits.

5/18/2011 - Couple pleads guilty in home healthcare fraud case

A local man and his wife pleaded guilty Wednesday to fraud charges involving their creation of and use of false patient medical and billing documents, and filing false reimbursement claims for services not provided, US Attorney Richard Callahan said.

5/17/2011 - Florida Trend Highlights Miami-Dade Telephonic Monitoring Pilot Project

To help crack down on Medicaid fraud, as required under Senate Bill 1986 passed by the Florida Legislature in 2009, the Agency for Health Care Administration last year implemented a home health telephonic monitoring system to help verify that home health services in Miami-Dade County are actually being provided to Medicaid recipients. Sandata, a New York-based company provides monitoring services.
